It is kind've unfortunate, but yes, different branches of the dev team tend to cluster together into separate entities. Ideally, we'd want everyone to have input on everything but in reality, people generally stick with what they know. For example, I don't know a thing about programming, so I tune out whenever that's being discussed.
Still, try to keep your communication lines as open and inviting as possible to avoid that feeling of everyone being different subcontractors.
