This Project as Art

Post by Solipsism »

This project is going to be a Visual novel with inspiration from Katawa Shoujo, but while creating this are you guys trying to make Art. Art is important and more than a book Visual novels are art to me, for they are created for the reason that only a visual novel could correctly convey the format of story you are trying to convey. Living these stories day by day reminds me Longinus and the "On the Sublime." The art of the sublime being a drop of the ego though s and environment to enjoy a single artistic medium. This is the visual novel. These are your stories, your tail. How will you convey it to give us options at having what we want and a complete separation from a harsh reality. What I'm trying to say is what is Art to you and do you think this is crafted is Art to you.

I'm afraid that I don't quite understand what you're asking of us. Do you honestly wish for us to delve into the complicated and highly subjective matter of what art is or how it should be defined, that has been the subject of discussions, theses and works beyond number by greater people than us who have dedicated their lives to it without ever coming to a universally satisfactory answer, or do you simply want us to describe some fashion in which art pertains to our project?

I believe that for the most part, for a learned man to ever claim to be able to define art adequately is beyond all other things an admission, willing or not, of their gross misunderstanding of the very concept. It so happens that "art", as an idea, is among the most elusive and fluid ones humanity has ever come up with, especially in this post-modern age in which the defiance of common understanding often becomes the very purpose of works and movements within it. Beyond even "life" or "death", which do have generally agreed upon scientific definitions, art escapes any as such almost essentially - in many ways, like "belief" or "happiness".

That saying, I must say that I highly doubt that I would be able to truly answer your question, if it is indeed what I'd first assumed it to be. If you wish for me to answer another, please try to a bit more specific about it.

Now I will feel so much more dignified when jacking off to Jeanne's buttocks.

Gaut's "cluster concept" theory appeals to my intuitions, but I have not really done more than scratched on the surface of theory of art since I don't see the point of the concept. Art seems to be a different concept from "things that give rise to aesthetic value" (art needs to be an artifact, whereas a beautiful sunset is not), whatever aesthetic value is, but why is the former category even meaningful to use? Pretentious sophistry!

Also, surely belief can be defined (someone holds a proposition to be true). Happiness is somewhat less straightfoward, but I doubt it's an open concept and the research surrounding it might give rise to a usable and sound definition.

Solipsism, that's your name? A demand for art in a game? While art might not have a clear definition, pretentiousness does. OP's post is a good example.

On topic of whether MissingStars can be art? It can be if you choose to see it as such, and I do. Art explores the human condition, delivers full blasts of emotion through settings and characters, as well as give viewers an insight (and maybe, a strong opinion as well) on a subject they might otherwise not think about. I don't think or care about mentally disabled people, seeing them as mostly inferior. I am certain that a good story, and Missing Stars can be one, would, however, change this thought the same way Katawa Shoujo changed my prespective on physically disabled people.

Also, yes, this post is also a form of pretentiousness or, at the very least, one with much too many conjunctions for its own benefit.
