Yes, of course Reddit projects are bad. Silly Ala.

I like how you accept that addressing naysay in the way of game development is necessary due to the validity of many complaints.

I find the hating odd. I mean I can sort-of get the derivative work argument, but not truly.
Sure, the core idea is clearly derivative. It started out as Mentaru Shoujo, after all. But how is that inherently a bad thing? You don't need to be innovative to be successful or superb, plus making a game in which your perspective is influences by mental troubles is still quite unique. AFAIK.

So yeah, let it be derivative. DKC was derivative too! :P

That's the web for you; internet hate machine.

I blame total anonymity. Lets us act out far more than we should or normally would.

Yes, because "internet hate machine" can totally function as an independent clause.

There are a few hundred games about zombies, space marines, and collectible monsters. People laugh about how common/similar they are all of the time. But they still sell squillions of copies in a large variety of nations.

Creating a story about unusual topics is always risky. There's a good chance it could get buried in a small niche and not get noticed by anyone else. That said, read the "It Will Never Catch On" article on TVTropes if you have time (and if you don't mind the horrible addiction). The last section of the article offers plenty of real life things that were never expected to be feasible or popular.

I can make people on the internet hate me in 4 steps! I learned the secret art of that during my first year after I actively started using the internet(around age 11-12)...

1. Be there
2. Butt in on everything, everytime
3. Be off-topic
4. ??? Profit

The third step is actually optional ^_^
---
I completely understand why negative criticism is way more informative than positive(and usually fake) criticism.

Lastly, Ala, we love how you always are Ala ^_^

4chan has a considerable hatred for anything Reddit related so I can see some of the issues there. MS is seen as an inferior copycat to KS that has an even more potentially risque storyline.

Ah..But as it goes, haters gonna hate. Even Katawa had a substantial amount of hate prior to release and critiques were worried how offensive it'd be.

After KS, any VN trying to ride the fame is probably not even considered a potentially offensive work but rather a potential (and near-certain) non-original, Asperger's filled fan-fap full of Mary Sues and cheese. And such a prejudice against MS is a lot more difficult to break (doable with awesome storytelling) than it was for KS (which ONLY needed to "not be about rape" to exceed all expectations). So the bar is quite a bit higher now. If KS didn't have the benefit of breaking all expectations just by "not being about rape", it would probably be just "passable".

MS does however not be Shakespeare level in writing to stand out. It has been labeled more or less a fan product of KS so just perfecting classical storytelling won't really break it outside of the fan-product expectation. Rather, it can for example aim for technical correctness in the expense of some of the conventional drama and pacing (exposition, ascension, climax and conclusion).

Also I'll be sorry if I shock some people in here but KS is not a really good VN, the overhaul mechanic is good but the game has big flaws: Hanako's route feel forced, Lilly is full of cliché, Hisao is dumb enough to never get that Emi's father is dead, Shizune's route has shittons of incoherences (how comes her family doesn't learn sign language too, etc...) and ONLY ONE FUCKING CHOICE.
And only Rin is the big redeeming factor.

feel free to throw stones at me.

Missing star, I hope, not only start with the following of the KS experience, but also learns from the mistakes.
In my opinion MS can take the throne from KS. it's all up to our dear devs.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I don't necessarily disagree with you about some of your points against KS (I also don't totally agree with them either), but we could drop the ball at any point along the road, and it's a long road. Besides, I don't think anyone is out to be better or worse than any other VN. I'd just like to make something I'm proud of and something you nice folks enjoy reading.
