There was about a year of my life when I was fascinated with freeware games. I downloaded several that were similar to old favorite video games: LinCity, Freeciv, and Planet MULE. The first two sounded promising, but I had trouble getting them to work with my computer. The last one was enjoyable, though I should probably have waited for a version past 1.0 to play it.

My experiences with experimental games were also a mixed bag. It was interesting to mess around with Storyteller, to think about what Passage meant, and to give the Super Smash Bros demake (with Gameboy style graphics) a try. A number of the others that I tried were frustratingly difficult or unintuitive. It was also tough to play The Linear RPG for more than a couple minutes, since it seemed like the writer was mocking me for being a fan of translated story-driven console games. I got the impression that if I were to meet the writer, the person would probably loathe me.
