since I find it fairly unbelievable for his entire family to fail to exist I guess it's just a bug nevermind

I think only ever happens when you skip through the demo. Sadly, it is a known bug we haven't quashed yet, but we are looking into that right now, among many other concerns. Thank you for the heads-up!
