So, I was bored yesterday and I just started herpderping through Wikipedia's list of mental disorders. My first thought was a lot of them are just be impossible to implement. So i want to see what sorts of disorders us non-devs think would work best in a VN setting. Devs, feel free to iterate exactly why our ideas are stupid.
So these are the mental disorders I think could be effective in a VN: Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Dissociative identity disorder (Split Personalities), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Those are what came to mind after a preliminary brainstorming session. Anyone else have any better ideas?
Unfortunately, the main characters have already been mostly decided. It irritates me that we couldn't have incorporated a broader range of conditions, however. Thanks for your time, all the same.
edit: sorry I hit the wrong button and edited your post instead of quoting I'm on a mission to find a log function to restore your post! Apologies X1,000 -Merc
edit by Waytfm: It's fine, You can go ahead and keep it around. It'll be nice evidence to show that the Devs aren't infalliable 8)
What I had said (more or less) was: "I'm sorry for the confusion. This thread was more about giving us non-devs something to speculate about. It's mostly just for our own amusement.

Don't let the sourness of the citrus (get it? ) spoil your thread, even if we have a lot ironed out, some genius may have an idea we entirely missed even with our many brains. So go forth and brain! And if nothing else, it makes for interesting discussion!
And: Sorry for sanitizing the above reply, working on a fix!

It's all cool. No hard feelings about the oppressive regime the Devs have become. Silencing all who oppose them!!!
I think OCD could work rather well. Going off of the concept art, I don't think that an idea, but I could be far behind the times here. Has OCD been accepted/rejected/looked at?

What are you getting at?
Citrus = Family of fruit consisting of among others, lemons and oranges, which are known to be sour
Waytfm wrote:Has OCD been accepted/rejected/looked at?
Suffice to say, if it exists it has been looked at Though I don't believe I could tell you more without being tracked down and sacrificed to the god of oblong sea creatures
I think we can safely say that we looked at a lot of things, and while we are in a process of narrowing it down, the only things we really rejected full-out are disorders and disabilities that make the character unfit to consent or completely impossible to be in a relationship with.

You are no sacrifice worthy of Cthulhu :suspicion:

-Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment.
-A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
-Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.
-Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., promiscuous sex, eating disorders, binge eating, substance abuse, reckless driving).
-Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, threats or self-injuring behavior such as cutting, interfering with the healing of scars (excoriation) or picking at oneself.
-Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days).
-Chronic feelings of emptiness
-Inappropriate anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights).
-Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation, delusions or severe dissociative symptoms
Most of them aren't really "good" for Mentaru Shoujo, but they're definitely interesting. It also mentions Prosopagnosia, which someone on the board actually has.

I guess that would be me, I got a very severe case of face blindness (beneath other disorders). Just keep in mind that we want to make absolutely sure that our characters are not deluded, mentally backward or otherwise unable to fully, 100% consent to a relationship, so some of these disorders would probably be out...

I know. They are interesting to learn about though.
