Death Note: Like or Dislike?

Post by jriley1 »

I just recently got the box set of Death Note manga, and I really enjoyed it. The artwork was above average, and a lot of detail went into the story. Even though the Manga ending and the Anime ending are slighty different, I consider them to be equal in emotional power, but not just anything can do that for me, being the unemotional carcass that I am.

I will not answer this question, save to say that I did not like it enough to bother reading/watching it. My apologies.

I watched the live action movies they did of it, they were okay. Not seen much of the anime aside form the infamous 'take a potato chip' scene.

I like the manga art - it's my definition of a well-drawn manga. Story-wise not so much however...it gets stale after the L arc.

Read trade paperback #1, but never got around to the rest of the series. I watched from the sidelines as Death Note became popular among my fellow fans.

That said, I'm a huge fan of Hikaru no Go, the previous comic which Takeshi Obata illustrated. I have not yet read Blue Dragon Ral Grad, or Bakuman.

I watched the anime first, then read the manga and I say only this:

Very good storyline, unfortunately, imperial is right, it gets stale after L :/
Artwork is pretty nice too

Summary: Awesome

I remember when my friend first showed me scanlations of Death Note when it first came out. I was like "that'll never catch on."

Neither. I have seen the anime and engrossed myself into the work but I can't say I like it. Neither do I dislike it. I just enjoy it.

Haven't read the manga. Liked the anime enough to buy the box set, though it wasn't exactly anything groundbreaking. Should have ended differently.
<alabaster> I don't like it that big.

Look like I'm late to this party...
But I dislike Death Note.
Mostly because people want to compare it to Code Geass and Code Geass is far superior.

^ That is almost right, except for the fact that Death Note is good, but Code Geass is FAAAR greater. I find it wrong to compare them.

Just because one thing is inferior to another doesn't mean they should not be compared. The MCs are very similar based on what I've heard, and that in itself would be a good reason for comparison.

On topic: I didn't like the Death Note anime and have not checked out its manga or live action film.

Well, the only thing they have in common would be that the MC is a strategist and good thinker...

I honestly found it getting a little bit meh after a while. Death Note has some nice stuff, but it just didnt click fully with me.

After L dies, it just spirals down into a mess. I enjoyed the first episodes the most.

True, very true. Near and Mello were a complete mess in comparison to L

Mello was so-so, not a genius like L, but I kind of liked his way of doing things. That other one I will agree to, thou.
