I guess I could go down as otaku, but I don't refer to myself as it, I just like watching cartoons where are the girls look like they are 6

Dont judge me

I wouldn't say I'm an "Otaku" but I do enjoy my Manga and Anime but I balance it out with my other nerdy hobbies. For the Horde!

I seriously hope you guys don't do this.
Anyway, I'm not an otaku. I don't watch homestuck and my little pony either. I don't really see the point of identifying with some sort of subculture because of your taste in entertainment anyway.

I don't consider myself an otaku.
Warhammer 40k compensate my love for anime and mangas.

This. I like both Homestuck and MLP, but this nonetheless. I can understand the desire to enter into a community formed around a mutual passion for an item of media, but that such a thing should define a person seems strange to me.

What you said, more or less. I tend to find people who are into something and cool about it to be much better people to hang around than those who identify with the subculture and become involved with it to the point of starting flamewars over trivial shit.

Well, I am an Otaku however, read this:
Otaku (おたく/オタク?) is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly (but not limited to) anime and manga

The only reason it gets such criticism is because most people forget/dont know about that "not limited to" :-(

In Japan it carries connotations of being a creepy loner/possible paedophile who never leaves his house or showers. In the west it basically doubles as a term for weeaboo. Either way it's probably better not to be one.

Sometimes, I have a hard time interpreting what people mean on these here forums.

Am I a guy with too much free-time? I'd laugh at myself if I said no. But does this mean I'm into bestiality?

O_o

I should really stop thinking about stuff.

I ain't no otaku, because I actually hate most everything about Japanese culture. Well, not everything. Just lots of stuff. I don't really like that much anime. (I could count the number of anime series I like on my two hands and have a few fingers left over) Thus, by traditional definitions, I can't really be an otaku. I'm, instead, a very much Western Nerd. And I bitch about everything.

Wait. I'm no nerd. I'm a Grade A American Jackass.

That's almost on the same level of those Tumblr feminists saying 99% of people misunderstand what gender is all about because those people don't share their fantasies of the rice cracker gender being a real thing. People don't give a rat's ass about the wikipedia definition of some term if it means something different to the majority.

Agreed. Well, for the most part. I really don't like the term 'the west', but that's a different debate.
I guess I'm in a one of those moods again today.

Me neither; I'm just being lazy and generalising. Pay me no heed.
