An Indie Movie Trailer

Post by Gloom »

This is probably the weirdest post I've ever made on any forum, ever, and that includes all the creepy semi-sexual roleplaying games and gender-bending fanfiction.

Basically, a friend of mine has made an indie film, and he just finished editing the trailer, and after much cajoling I promised I'll post it on at least one forum - "for the world to see".

So, there it is.

The keen eyed among you (and those who know how I look) might notice that I also appear for a couple of shots (that's what I get for my involvement in a couple of prior films by other people...). I have no further comment on that subject, nor will I ever have. Any question following shall be answered by me in private, in the dark of night, in your bedroom, with a garrote. Remember that I know where you live.

Also, as you can plainly hear, the director insisted on using English, which is quite obviously not the native language of the vast majority of the cast. If you've ever wondered how Hebrew accented English sounds like, today your curiosity will be sated.

Having fulfilled my promise to my movie-making friend and thoroughly embarrassed myself in the process, I am now ready to go to sleep.

Good night and good week, ladies and gentlemen.

(also, if you have any constructive criticism, taking into account the fact that this is the first professional quality movie this guy has ever made and that the budget was thousands of NIS into the negative, please make them and I will make sure to deliver them to him. This is important to him, so be nice and intelligent)

The contrast looks a little too high in some of the scenes imo. (He's not using those transitions in the film, right?)

Hmmm... my dislike for niggardry aside, the only things that I could offer for improvement are to improve the delivery of the dialogue and perhaps tweak the audio recording a bit. Some of the lines didn't feel quite genuine, as if they were just being read from a script. With practice, however, that's easy enough to fix. The very first man we saw, in particular, should be used as a reference for how to act believably. Audio might be a little more tricky. In some spots, either the ambient background or the quality of the receiver puts in a distinctive "vacuum-cleaner hum" that isn't present in most high-budget films.

Aside from these things, the trailer was otherwise the equivalent of something I'd see here in America.

Also, loving the frying pan. Certainly one of the more amusing innovations in ghetto warfare I've seen.

That...makes me wish very badly that I lived in Israel. :D Seriously, that was rather funny, but aside from nodding at Malkav (like I USUALLY do) for his excellent critique, nothing new here. Nice job, considering this was an Indie film. I'd certainly pay to watch that on your suggestion, Gloom.

Amusingly enough, the first man is the producer's father, the only one who knows nothing whatsoever about films and didn't want anything to do with this one... As for the rest of the acting, I wholeheartedly agree. I've warned the director numerous times that this would be the result of trying to do everything in English, but he wasn't willing to consent. I assure you that if the actors didn't have to focus so much on remembering how to say their lines, and could instead focus on saying them properly and intuitively, the result would have been much different.

Then you should print off every response posted here as proof, waving it in front of him and screaming, "You see??? Even the INTERNET thinks you're wrong!!!" Or something to that effect. Alternatively, you could just do what I do and calm your mind with the soothing sensation of a tub full of earth worms wriggling across your naked body :)
