Words for the unaware

Post by TheCynic »

Okay so reading the threads from both these and the KS forums got me thinking.

While the dev team is hard at work(apparently) :P - kidding guys, don't bite me - why don't we fans lend them some invaluable support in the best way seemingly possible - advertising?

What 4LS has shown the world is that 'amateur' and 'unprofessional' are not synonymous, at least not in spirit. They could pull that off quite successfully in my eyes, but the one thing they lacked was the 'expectation' of being so widely appreciated and acclaimed. This was because they weren't expecting a wide audience in the first place.

But if us fans (and some of the devs too) start a publicity campaign now, by the time MS is release-ready we can have spread the word around quite a vast expanse of web-space, and that would effectively contribute to MS's success. This would be a vital advantage that KS didn't have. What do you think guys?

There are quite a few sites that advertise it already. If you know of any more that would spread the word, I'm all ears!

It has a mention the KS forums somewhere iirc
(Probably missed a few)
Other than that, I guess we could just tell friends about it

Part of what made KS wonderful was that it as a surprise. I'm not sure anyone was expecting anything incredible. Most people weren't expecting anything at all, because they'd never heard of it. I don't have much desire to hype up audiences for Missing Stars this early on. We haven't even released a demo yet. Let the work speak for itself. If it deserves attention, it will get attention.

I think word of mouth should probably wait until after something has been released. I know I would absolutely flip my shit if Con Amore became very well known right now. I can only assume the devs here share similar sentiments (Alliteration motherfucker)

Especially when nukes and strategic targets are involved. As in most certainly not this case.

Yeah i guess it would be until a promo video or a playable demo is ready to be released. Nothing large-scale now then? I mean i don't want the forums to be flooded by shallow supporters either.

But somewhere along the line MS has to advertise. Even the KS dev team tried a few publicity stunts at places like Anime Expo.

I guess the point is that we(fans) have great potential in publicity, and it would be sad to waste it.

Plus i'd love having my own booth at Anime Expo too ^.^

Any future publication on the game or its contents will be decided internally and done by the dev team. We'd like to have a control on what is being released and on which venue/channel of information.

tl;dr publicity isn't needed right now, probably not ever. I'm already slightly uncomfortable with this amount of attention without any demos. This kind of stuff spreads by word of mouth anyway.

Eh, no point being grumpy about it.
Personally, I'm flattered by any interest we receive. The world's inundated with media, people taking time to tell others about ours isn't negative in my book.
On the other hand, it's not something we want to encourage per se, that's likely only to draw the ire of the internet, self promotion is oft frowned upon.
